About Us
Green
Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller is committed to “greening” the practice of law as much as possible while maintaining our excellent level of commitment to, and representation of, our clients. To that end, we selected a team of attorneys and staff members to form the appropriately named &reen Committee.
The creation of the firm’s Environmental Law practice fueled our commitment to becoming increasingly green and introduced us to the standards appropriate for conservation efforts in the office. We have made great strides toward greening our practice of law.
The ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge
The firm is a proud participant in ABA-EPA Law Office Climate Challenge, a voluntary program specifically designed for law offices. Our participation certifies that we have implemented best practices for office paper management.
Recycling Program
Our Philadelphia office is taking advantage of a single-stream recycling program offered by the waste management company for our building. We have designated two easily distinguished trash cans in most common areas to separate recyclables—such as glass, plastic, and paper—from nonrecyclables, such as food waste.
The Firm That Uses Less Paper
Using paper unnecessarily creates environmental and economic waste. In an effort to reduce both, the majority of our monthly business reports, as well as our staff evaluations, are now distributed electronically. The &reen Committee encourages anyone distributing a document to consider doing so electronically.
Recycled Paper
The firm is proud to use recycled paper for most of its stationery items. These include letterhead, notepads, conference room place mats, copier and printer paper, note cards, business cards, and even our renowned holiday card.
Double-Sided Copying
Most photocopying can be double-sided, which dramatically reduces the amount of paper used. At Hangley Aronchick, double-sided copying is becoming the default rather than the exception.
Double-Sided Printing
We installed double-sided printers in convenient locations throughout the firm and have instituted a system to remind lawyers and staff to print in double-sided format whenever possible.
Beverages
The firm no longer purchases bottled water for conference rooms. Instead, we provide guests with pitchers of ice water, reducing plastic bottle waste. We also provide employees and guests with reusable mugs and glasses for all beverages, cutting down on the waste generated from paper and plastic cups.
Saving Energy
Computers and fluorescent office lights use a surprising amount of electricity. In order to reduce our carbon footprint (and save on our electric bill), we encourage all employees to shut down their computers and office lights at the end of the day and to turn off their office lights if they will be leaving for a long period of time.
The “It’s Easy Being Green” Challenge
Because we love any kind of a contest, the &reen Committee has rolled out a challenge to harness that competitive spirit into creating a greener firm. As part of the “It’s Easy Being Green” Challenge, office floors are divided into quadrants and are awarded points based on how green they are. The greenest quadrant wins a green trophy, which is subsequently passed along to the next quadrant to win the challenge.
