Law Clerks and Law Students

Completing a clerkship? Finishing law school? We encourage you to consider applying for a position with Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller. We think we can offer a career path that isn’t available in most cities or with most law firms.

If you are a former law clerk, you’ll feel right at home at our firm. A majority of our lawyers clerked on district or circuit courts; one clerked on the United States Supreme Court, two clerked for the state Supreme Court, and six clerked on a United States Court of Appeals. Hangley Aronchick lawyers include former Philadelphia City Solicitors; a past Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association; current and former law school professors; fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, American College of Bankruptcy Lawyers, and American College of Real Estate Lawyers; members of the American Law Institute and American Bankruptcy Institute; and leaders of inns of court and the American Bar Association Section of Litigation.

Because our firm is smaller than many of our peers, our attorneys immediately have the opportunity to work with some of the best lawyers in the region. In publications ranging from Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers to The Best Lawyers in America, our business, litigation, bankruptcy, environmental, and real estate lawyers are singled out as the best in the profession, and described as “stellar litigators” and negotiators with an “impressive knack for cutting to the heart of the issue.” We publish and we teach, locally and nationally.

Most of all, we try—not just prepare and settle, but actually try—a lot of important cases on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, big and small. People seek us out when they have a complicated case that simply has to be battled out in court. Our relatively small size and our position on the short list of trial specialists for complex cases enable us to offer our associates something that is rare in larger firms—hands-on experience in cases that go the distance.

Large firm litigators can spend their entire careers in discovery and motion practice without ever seeing a judge, a jury, or the inside of a courtroom.  That’s not the case at Hangley Aronchick; our younger associates serve as co-counsel (and sometimes as lead counsel) in cases that go to trial or evidentiary hearing in both state and federal courts. Our younger lawyers also frequently serve as second chair or co-lead counsel on cases.

Associates are actively involved in the firm's management.  An associate serves as an observer at Board meetings.  Associates also serve on every firm committee.

Associates at our firm are also involved in community and professional organizations. Several attorneys are actively involved in local and state bar associations, they teach law courses at local and national law schools, and they serve in leadership roles within community organizations.

Pro bono litigation is important, too, and we do quite a bit of it. Our younger lawyers have worked on pro bono matters ranging from representing a Guantanamo Bay detainee to Philadelphians facing mortgage foreclosure. Check out our pro bono page to read more about the great pro bono work our lawyers have done.

It would be our pleasure to consider your application. We prefer that you submit your application electronically here. If you have any questions about our firm or the hiring process, please feel free to contact the Shareholder Chair of our Hiring Committee, Dan Segal, or the Associate Co-Chair, Bonnie Hoffman. You are also welcome to contact any of our other associates and ask them what they do, how they like it here, and whether they think this might be the place for you.
