Pro Bono
Organizations
Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller lawyers receive pro bono cases from numerous sources. In addition to individual referrals, we have a close working relationship with a variety of community organizations that consistently send cases our way. Most of these organizations provide specialized training and support for attorneys who undertake representation of their clients, and we encourage our lawyers to take advantage of these resources.
VIP: Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program is dedicated to providing indigent individuals equal access to the legal system in civil matters by referring them to volunteer lawyers, paralegals, and others who provide legal services free of charge.
Juvenile Law Center: Our firm has worked on several matters with this outstanding organization dedicated to addressing legal issues that affect juveniles. Founded in 1975 as a nonprofit legal service, JLC maintains a national litigation practice that includes appellate and amicus work.
Homeless Advocacy Project: The firm has adopted a homeless shelter in West Philadelphia that houses three floors of families. Volunteer attorneys and paralegals provide legal clinics throughout the year to residents. They also advise clients regarding Supplemental Security Income benefits, welfare, and special education needs for their children.
Philadelphia Bar Foundation: In 2006, Hangley Aronchick proudly joined the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and the Philadelphia Bar Association in their Raising the Bar Campaign. Through this effort, the firm pledged to make a total donation of in excess of $300 per lawyer to the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and to legal service organizations in Philadelphia that provide direct legal assistance to the poor, disadvantaged, disabled, and elderly as well as to victims of abuse and neglect. Litigation shareholder Wendy Beetlestone is President of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation.
Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts: Several of our attorneys have worked with this organization, which was founded in 1978 to provide pro bono legal assistance and business counseling to artists and cultural organizations.
Prisoners’ Rights: Our firm regularly takes advantage of opportunities to represent prisoners in civil rights suits in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
