We are well known for our skill in representing other lawyers and their law firms in litigation, and have defended many of Philadelphia’s most prominent law firms in professional misconduct and malpractice actions. We also litigate malpractice claims involving other types of professionals, including accountants. In some cases, we represent the professionals accused of misconduct; in others, the plaintiffs.
Our successful recent representations include defending a patent attorney and his firm against claims of malpractice; after winning sanctions against the plaintiff, we achieved a settlement that included the plaintiff’s acknowledgement that our clients did not represent him. In another high-profile legal malpractice case, we won a directed verdict on behalf of our law firm client after seven weeks of trial. Hangley Aronchick attorneys have also served as expert witnesses on the appropriate standards of ethical and legal conduct.

We are frequently called upon to advise lawyers and organizations about their respective rights and responsibilities when a lawyer or other professional moves from one firm to another or starts her own firm. We routinely provide counseling, as well as litigation expertise, concerning disputes between and among existing, terminated or departing members of law firms and of other professional organizations.
