Finishing up law school? Ready for something that isn’t just a “first job?” Then we encourage you to consider applying for a position with Hangley Aronchick. We think we can offer a career path that isn’t available in most cities or with most law firms.

Adena Herskovitz, Associate, Real Estate Because our size is smaller than most of our peers, you will immediately have the opportunity to work along with some of the best lawyers in the region. Hangley Aronchick lawyers include former Philadelphia City Solicitors, a past Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, current and former law school professors, fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, American College of Bankruptcy Lawyers, and American College of Real Estate lawyers, members of the American Law Institute and American Bankruptcy Institute, and leaders of inns of court and the ABA Section of Litigation. A majority of our lawyers clerked on district or circuit courts; one of them clerked on the state Supreme Court and one  clerked on the United States Supreme Court.

In publications ranging from Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers to The Best Lawyers In America to Philadelphia Magazine, our business litigation, bankruptcy and real estate lawyers are singled out as the best in the profession, and described as “stellar litigators” and negotiators with an “impressive knack for cutting to the heart of the issue.” We publish and we teach, locally and nationally. John Summers (L’84, Judge O’Neill (E.D. Pa.)) recently taught at Penn Law School.

Most of all, we try -- not just prepare and settle, but actually try -- a lot of important cases on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, big and small, and we are similarly sought after to do difficult real estate and business transactions. People seem to seek us out when they have a complicated case that simply has to be battled out in court or wrestled with in extended negotiations. Our relatively small size and our position on the “short list” of trial specialists for complex cases enable us to offer our associates something that is rare in larger firms -- hands-on experience in cases that go the distance. Large firm litigators can spend their entire careers in discovery and motion practice without ever seeing a judge, a jury or the inside of a courtroom.

Not so at Hangley Aronchick; our younger associates serve as co-counsel (and sometimes as lead counsel) in cases that go to trial or evidentiary hearing in both state and federal courts. Our younger lawyers serve as second chair or co-lead counsel on cases frequently. Sometimes the younger lawyers fly solo.  Associate Shanon Levin (L '00) recently served as lead counsel in an arbitration proceeding representing a Philadelphia import buying agency that was sued by a former vice president.  The former employee filed a demand for arbitration with the American Arbitration Association asserting breach of contract.  The arbitrator rejected both of the claims and awarded attorneys’ fees in Hangley Aronchick’s favor.

Michele Hangley, Shareholder, Litigation Several years ago, a client insisted that Michele Hangley (L '98, Judge Kravitch (11 Cir.)), then a 3rd year associate, try his international arbitration solo. She did. She won. We’ve saved a lot of small entrepreneurs’ bacon over the years, but we also have the honor of representing universities, newspapers, governments and mammoth companies in trials of great importance. Knowing the value of peer approval, we take pride in the fact that major law firms throughout the country regularly engage us when (as happens more and more frequently these days) they are named as defendants in high-risk, high-profile cases. We even represented the Pennsylvania Bar Association (in effect, the entire lawyer population of our state) when its judicial candidate evaluation process was attacked in the courts.

Associates at our firm are also involved in community and professional organizations.  Jon Marans serves on the Advisory Board of Organ Donors are Heroes and Sozi Tulante is on the Executive Committees of both the Philadelphia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division and the Barrister's Association.

Eric Bloom, Associate, LitigationPro bono work is important, too, and we do quite a bit of it. Many of our younger lawyers have handled prisoner civil rights cases and several other pro bono matters. Check out our pro bono page to read more about the great pro bono work our lawyers have done.

We’d be honored to entertain your application. Please call or send your resume to Dan Segal, Leslie Kramer or Jon Marans. Better yet, pick up the phone and call a couple of our associates. Ask them what they do, how they like it here and whether they think this might be the place for you.

Hangley Aronchick complies with the guidelines set forth by the National Association of Law Placement regarding the interviewing and hiring of law students.
