He is a member of the American and Montgomery County Bar Associations and the Nicholas A. Cipriani Family Law Inn of Court. Shoemaker is a frequent lecturer for both the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, and he has been named a Rising Star by Pennsylvania Super Lawyers magazine each year since 2008.

Shoemaker graduated in 2000 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was selected by the faculty to the Order of the Barristers. He received his BA from Duquesne University in 1997.
