Environmental Law

The complex challenges facing our clients often require innovative solutions. Knowing the legal requirements is only the starting point. We pride ourselves on our knowledge of the law and our ability to apply it to reach practical and effective solutions for our clients.

Because of our skill and experience, clients ask us to represent them in both established and emerging areas of environmental law. We handle regulatory, litigation, and transactional matters in the traditional areas of water, waste, and air. In addition, we have counseled clients on environmental management systems, reviewed clients’ federal securities reporting obligations for environmental liabilities, helped establish and implement auditing programs, provided guidance on sustainability initiatives, and assisted with chemical regulation matters. As the divide between energy and environmental practices narrows, we are also working with clients seeking to develop, permit, and finance alternative energy facilities. We have also helped clients examine the effects of global climate change, emissions trading regimes, energy demand reduction requirements, and other legislative proposals on their operations.

Leadership

We are recognized leaders in environmental law, with experience and ongoing involvement in community activities that complement our practices:

  • Ken Warren served as a member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Environmental Law from 2006 to 2009 and as Section Chair of the ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources from 2003 to 2004. He is general counsel to the Delaware River Basin Commission and a former business stakeholder representative on the Executive Council of the National Environmental Justice Advisory Council of the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Steve Miano serves on the Executive Committee of the ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources and formerly served as assistant regional counsel at EPA Region III. An adjunct professor of environmental law at Rutgers University Law School, he is also one of the organizers of the annual Pennsylvania Brownfields conference.

Comprehensive Practice

Our practice encompasses all types of environmental matters, from counseling clients on compliance with federal and state regulations to representing clients in litigation and enforcement proceedings.
