Jerry Shoemaker, Rebecca Nayak and Drew Jabour-Gehman authored articles for the fall edition of Pennsylvania Family Lawyer, the PBA’s Family Law Section’s quarterly newsletter.
In his inaugural “From the Chair” column, Jerry lays out some of his goals for the coming year as he begins his leadership of the Family Law Section. He also highlights what section committees are focusing on and upcoming educational programming.
Drew Jabour-Gehman explores “Biological Truth, Legal Fiction and Children’s Best Interests: The Still-Evolving Presumption of Parentage in Pennsylvania.” The article examines how the presumption of paternity in Pennsylvania works, the impact of the court’s decision in Sitler v. Jones, and why legislative intervention is still needed.
Rebecca Nayak provided sensible guidance for families in her article, “Be Proactive, Not Panicked: Legal Safeguards for LGBTQ+ Families.” She outlines steps LGBTQ+ couples and families can and should take to secure and protect their legal rights.
