Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller shareholder Gerald L. Shoemaker is now a Trained Parenting Coordinator, and is expanding his practice to include parent coordination matters. He just completed a 24-hour training with the Cooperative Parenting Institute.

A parenting coordinator is appointed by a court to assist parties during ongoing disputes regarding parenting decisions. When parents are in conflict, the Parent Coordinator steps in to promote the interests and well-being of the children involved. Parent Coordinators are appointed by the court, and are accountable to the court. They educate all parties involved on child development, communication, collaboration, alternate conflict resolution, and the ways conflicts affect children. They also address issues specific to the case, including minor variations of visitation schedules, health care management, child rearing issues, mental health or substance abuse care for the parents or children, and educational decisions.

Shoemaker concentrates his practice in domestic relations issues including equitable distribution, alimony, custody and support matters. He has also handled a variety of issues arising out of same-sex relationships.

Shoemaker is committed to the practice of family law, which is evident by his active participation in the Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA), which chose him as one of 10 members to participate in its prestigious leadership program. In addition, he is a frequent lecturer on family law topics for both the PBA and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.
