Hangley Aronchick shareholder Rebecca Levin Nayak spoke with Philadelphia Gay News about Philadelphia Family Pride’s upcoming “Pathways to Parenthood” series, which offers support and resources to prospective LGBTQ+ parents.
The free, eight-week educational series, running from October 1 through November 19, will guide individuals and couples through the various options for building a family, with sessions focused on surrogacy, adoption, foster care and sperm donation. Becca, who serves on the board of Philadelphia Family Pride, told PGN that the series would provide a forum for participants to explore their options and to learn from the experiences of other families in the LGBTQ+ community.
“Creating those connections early on is really nice because then when you do have a child, you’re already going to have people who you’re connected to in the community who are in the same stage of life with you,” she said.
Becca noted that, while the law hasn’t changed, the current political environment has heightened fears around discrimination, making longstanding guidance, such as the necessity of confirming parentage through court orders, more critical. She also encouraged participants to attend every session, even those centered on paths they aren’t currently considering.
“There are so many ways to build a family that, if you want to be a parent, you can get there,” Becca said.
